Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Development is a Key Senior Management Role within the organization who is responsible for planning and implementing a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization. The Director of Development is an enthusiastic professional who knows how to secure financial support for the organization. He/She sets and achieves fundraising goals, maintains knowledge of fundraisers’ interests, and cultivates relationships with fellow employees and volunteers. The Director of Development is an active participant in fundraising events, undertakes vision trips, and maintains a social media presence. The Director of Development builds lasting relationships with donors, and keeps them informed on how their financial input is making the world a better place. The Director of Development is self-motived, deadline-driven multitasker.

The Director of Development plans and implements important events such as Chapter’s Annual Gala, Foundation’s Golf Outing and other events that will be well recognized and supported among donors, members and vendors. The Director of Development will oversee organization’s media strategy and ensure that the agency is always protected, well presented and publicly supported by the community, funders, and donors. The Director of Development will work with the Executive Director/CEO to make regular presentations to the Board of Directors and provide fundraising reports to the organization and its trustees.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the financial development of the organization as set forth by the Executive Staff.
  • Assigns, plans, and oversees the work of departmental staff.
  • Works with the Executive Director ad the Executive Team to determine the mission, purpose, and priorities of the organization for each fiscal year.
  • Understands the organization’s strategic plan and ensures that development and fundraising plan supports strategic development and meets financial goals.
  • Sets annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals.
  • Establishes fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one year, five year, and longer-term goals.
  • Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Ensures that the organization retain its donors but also ensures that new donors are brought into the organization.
  • Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors and the public.
  • Researches potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding.
  • Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
  • Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • With approval and guidance from Executive Director and Executive Staff, collaborates with the Board of Directors to create and implement a fundraising plan.
  • Develops a digital fundraising strategy.
  • Furnishing board with regular progress reports.
  • Collaborating with a network to identify and build relationships with new donors.
  • Maintaining relationships with existing sponsors.
  • Obtaining financial support from individuals and organizations.
  • Managing fundraising and special events.
  • Generating development materials such as grants and case statements.
  • Managing the development software and ensure that it meets organizational needs and stays up to date.
  • Managing data entry and gift processing.
  • Other duties as assigned based on the needs of the organization.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of tax planning principles and techniques that favor charitable giving.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit management, or related field.
  • 4+ years of sales or business development experience. Nonprofit experience is preffered\
  • Proficient with sponsorship solicitation.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Google Suite applications and CRMs (Bloomerang knowledges is a plus).
  • Proficient with social media platforms.
  • Excellent understanding of best practices.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Available to travel, work weekends and evenings.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Personal vehicle preferred
